College 101: 5 Ways to Transition From Student Life to Working Life

Changing from student to working professional can be challenging for a lot of people. This could be because society dictates that you have to have a lot of money to survive in the world. It could also be because you're not following your true passions. You may have drifted from your interests due to personal issues or pressure from your family to follow their lead. However, there are certain things you can do to make this transition smoother.

Here are five ways to transition from student life to working life.

1. Find a Job in Your Field

Finding a job can be challenging, and finding a job in your field, can be even more complicated. Nonetheless, there are ways in which you can successfully achieve this. You can start by applying for internships in companies that offer what you want. For example, you may want to look for construction, aerospace, or car manufacturers, depending on your field, if you're working on your engineering bachelor's degree. Internships can give you a taste of what the actual job would be like if you got hired. Undergraduates, as well as college graduates, can apply for internships, and they can earn you a paycheck as well as a mentorship experience.

2. Make Time For Hobbies

Another thing that can help you transition into your working life is your hobby. Your working life can get overwhelming, so you will need the means to take your mind off the stress and entertain yourself in other ways. This can be sports, traveling, or gaming, among other ideas.

If PC gaming is one of your hobbies, chances are you'll enjoy playing on League of Legends' five-by-five multiplayer map, Summoner's Rift, where you fight to destroy the enemy nexus. To destroy them, champions need to move through one of the three different lanes to defeat their enemy at their weakest points. Each team is defended by turrets that gain strength as they gain proximity on its nexus, which must be destroyed to get to the next turret in that lane. Playing on Summoner's Rift will take your mind off your daily work struggles.

3. Save Your Money

To make your life even easier, you should start saving money as soon as you can. Saving money is a great way to stay covered if any emergency expenses appear out of the blue. It can also help make big purchases that would otherwise require a credit card or loan. If you have the chance to start saving money from high school or before, your future self will thank you. However, if you're a recent college graduate, you will want to start making a budget to keep you on track of your spending habits, so you can begin building good ones.

4. Invest Your Money

In addition to saving your money, you will want to start investing at a young age. You can invest in your retirement with a Roth IRA or a 401(k) through your employer. For example, you can invest in a real estate property such as a duplex to accommodate yourself in one of the units and a family in the other while you generate an extra income from their rent. Investing means making your money work for you to have more free time to do the things you enjoy the most

5. Stay True to Yourself

Lastly, when going through this transition, you must stay true to yourself. This means that you should only consider careers that will make you happy. If you want to become a musician, then go for it. The same goes for your job—don't just take a job because you'll make a ton of money. You need to like what you do to be happy in life.

Your transition doesn't have to be complicated; you just have to be prepared to make the change.
