Madison native accused of false report in UW-Madison campus robbery

Darren DeLaOssa reported a mugging to the UW-Madison Police Department Wednesday near the Nielson Tennis Center of the university’s campus.

University students received a WiscAlert notifying them of the robbery and describing the suspect as “black male in his mid-20s with a thin to medium build, approximately 5’9” and 180lbs, with a full, scruffy beard and short black hair. He was wearing a tan shirt, a black hoodie, blue shoes, and blue jeans.”

The suspect allegedly approached the victim, struck him and fled the scene with his phone and wallet, according to DeLaOssa.

DeLaOssa is not associated with the university.

UWPD spokesperson Marc Lovicott said their investigation found the robbery did not occur, and the 57-year-old Madison native falsely reported the crime.

DeLaOssa was arrested Thursday for obstruction of justice.
