UW-Madison announced the honorees last Friday for the 12th annual Outstanding Women of Color Awards for their noteworthy contributions in their field.
The 2019-20 honorees include: Desiree Bates, Shiva Bidar-Sielaff, Gina Green-Harris, Eden Inoway-Meza, Ahna Skop and Jasmine Zapata.
“It is a privilege to celebrate extraordinarily talented, dedicated and hardworking honorees, who are just a few of the many women on campus and in the community, who never ask for praise or recognition,” Deputy Vice Chancellor for Diversity and Inclusion Patrick J. Sims said.
This award aims to acknowledge and honor women of color among the faculty, staff, students and community members of the Greater Madison area.
The university will host a reception March 5 at 5 p.m. in the Pyle Center to celebrate the honorees.
“This year we received more than 50 nominations for this opportunity to salute their exemplary contribution to campus and community. That means there is still an incredible number of candidates who need to know we value your tenacity, strength and wisdom,” Sims said.
