Kelli Bates and the Badgers advanced to the Sweet Sixteen after two postseason road sweeps.

Kelli Bates and the Badgers advanced to the Sweet Sixteen after two postseason road sweeps.

Badgers win in straight sets, take down No. 6 Nebraska

In front of a packed Field House, the No. 5 Wisconsin Badgers (17-1 Big Ten, 21-5 overall) did not disappoint as they swept the No. 6 Nebraska Cornhuskers (15-3 Big Ten, 23-4 overall) in three consecutive sets.

In an intensely competitive match, the Badgers never let up on the attack, consistency was the key to victory. The constant pressure and lack of errors by the Badgers enabled them to win contested points and forced the Cornhuskers to make mistakes all afternoon long.

Molly Haggerty and Sydney Hilley led the way offensively for the Badgers, with 16 kills and 48 assists respectively, although it was certainly a team effort with two other Badgers, Madison Duello and Dana Rettke, each had double-digit kills.

The entire game featured an intense battle for both teams, with neither side making egregious errors and displaying incredible skills on both offense and defense.

The first set was intensely competitive to start with. However, half way through the set the Badgers were able to pull away and win 25-19 to come away with an early 1-0 lead.

The second set featured even more competition. The Badgers reached a 22-19 lead, and although they made a few errors in crunch time, they were able to seal it with a kill by Danielle Hart to make the score 25-22.

In the clinching set the Badgers were impeccable, despite the fierce competition. The third set featured 11 tie scores and five lead changes, but the Badgers were able to maintain their composure and come away with the win after a service error by Nebraska’s Hayley Densberg.

All in all, it was a stellar performance by the Badgers to come away with yet another top ten win and a fantastic way to close out the last home game in what has been a fantastic season so far.
