After losing his State Street location in 2013, Markos Regassa will join the UW-Madison community with a new Buraka location in Union South.

Buraka to replace Harvest Gain in Union South

Madison’s premiere Ethiopian restaurant, Buraka, opened a temporary location in Union South Wednesday after owner Markos Regassa lost his State Street location.

After the location closed in 2013, he moved his establishment to Williamson Street — further away from the UW-Madison campus that always supported him.

Harvest Grain, a sandwich shop located in Union South closed earlier this year due to a lack of student employees.

Expected to reopen in Spring 2020, Buraka will be a guest vendor until there is enough student employees to reopen Harvest Grain.

In the warmer months, Buraka has a popular food truck on State Street, often serving UW-Madison students and faculty.
