After missing the first two meets of the season without explanation from the coaching staff, Wisconsin junior and 2016 Olympic gold medalist Cierra Runge is questionable to compete this weekend against North Carolina State, according to various sources close to the program.
The exact nature of Runge’s situation is murky at best to many around the program, and The Daily Cardinal was not given any information other than that she is still on the team and that a timeline for her return to competition is currently unknown.
Runge played a critical role last year for the Badgers after transferring from California, anchoring the Big Ten Champion 400-yard freestyle relay as well as was a four-time Big Ten runner-up in the distance freestyle events and the 800-yard freestyle relay.
Wisconsin hits the pool on Friday for a home meet against North Carolina State at 4 p.m. at the Natatorium.
