Man arrested after attacking pedestrians near Slichter Residence Hall

UW-Madison Police Department arrested an 18-year-old man Saturday who caused a public disturbance by grabbing pedestrians, according to a UWPD incident report.

UWPD officers responded to a call for help around 5:45 p.m. and located the man near Slichter Residence Hall. The alleged attacker, identified as Isaac M. Ziegler, has no affiliation with UW-Madison, according to UWPD Director of Communications Marc Lovicott.

Ziegler was attacking passersby near the residence hall, according to the report. Based on his behavior UWPD assumed that he was under the influence of drugs.

UWPD officers attempted to detain Ziegler, but he resisted. The report said he charged at the officers and then ran away.

After catching him near the Lakeshore Path, the officers held him and used a Taser. Two officers received minor injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital. They were released and able to return to duty later in the evening. Ziegler was also taken to a local hospital for an evaluation.

He was booked in the Dane County Jail and faces charges for disorderly conduct, possession of marijuana, resisting arrest and two counts of causing injury to police officers, according to the release.
