State Rep. Brett Hulsey, D-Madison, emailed a letter to U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin Wednesday urging her to oppose the pending approval of 30 natural gas terminals.
Hulsey wants Baldwin to oppose the terminals until the Department of Energy completes a thorough economic analysis on how an increase in terminals would affect the price of natural gas, according to the release.
The Madison representative said the price of natural gas increased 35 percent in 2013 and increasing the supply of natural gas now could hurt future price increases.
Hulsey said that exporting cheap gas to foreign corporations gives them a “comparative advantage.” Hulsey also said consumers in Wisconsin are paying for expensive propane while the state is shipping cheap natural gas to other countries.
“Let’s take care of our own people first,” Hulsey said
