Gov. Scott Walker sent a letter to President Barack Obama Wednesday requesting assistance to tackle the propane shortage currently afflicting Wisconsin. The letter coincides with Obama’s visit to Waukesha, Wis., Thursday.
In the letter, Walker called attention to the roughly 250,000 homes that use propane and also referred to the polar vortex recently experienced by the state. He requested assistance so that farms and businesses will be protected and continue to be productive.
Walker also asked the U.S. Department of Transportation to extend the Hours of Service regulations for propane, which would increase supply through March.
Walker also said the release of the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, a program that subsidizes the cost of propane, would be “a valuable tool in helping families stay warm during these cold winter months.” Walker further requested the easing of Small Business Administration loan requirements, which would allow them to better face rising propane costs.
