Men's golf host Badger Invitational at University Ridge Golf Course

The sun was out, but so were gusts of wind reaching up to 20 mph at the Badger Men’s Golf Invitational at University Ridge Golf Course.

Out of 14 teams, the Wisconsin men’s golf team finished 11th with a final score of 900, 36-above par.

The winner of the tournament was South Carolina. The Gamecocks finished with an 856, eight-below par.

They also had the top two individual winners. South Carolina’s junior Caleb Sturgeon set the Badger Invitational 54-hole record with a 206, 10-under par. Sophomore teammate Matt NeSmith finished in second place at four-under par.

A career-best 18-hole performance propelled Wisconsin redshirt senior Robert Jacobsen to finish tied for third place at one-under par.

Second place individually for the Badgers was sophomore Matt Ross who shot four-over par.

Only four golfers finished under par for the tournament.

Freshman Tommy Schofield shot seven-over, redshirt senior Jack Watson shot nine-over, freshman Ben Skogen shot 11-over, redshirt senior Zach Balit shot 17-over, junior Thomas O’Bryan shot 18-over, and senior John Gullberg shot 25-over.

After competing at home, the Badgers will go on the road to the Erin Hills Invitational in Hartford, WI. Marquette University will host the tournament Oct. 6 through Oct. 8.
