State legislators push legislation to prevent robocalls

Two state legislators recently proposed a bill that would help people avoid political robocalls by keeping their names on the state’s do-not-call list, according to the Wisconsin State Journal.

State Rep. Andre Jacque, R-DePere, and state Sen. Sheila Harsdorf, R-River Falls, proposed the bill, which was introduced simultaneously in both houses of the legislature, to change current law that allows political parties to contact constituents with robocalls in the months leading up to elections. Under the bill, people living in the state could remain on the do-not-call list as long as they re-register every two years.

Both legislators said they introduced the bill after hearing complaints from constituents who received numerous robocalls before state elections.

The proposals are still in their preliminary stages.
