Thief on W. Gilman St. takes woman’s backpack, wallet

An unknown suspect robbed a woman on the 400 block of West Gilman Street Sunday evening, according to a police statement.

The 21-year-old Madison resident was walking on campus when the suspect approached her from behind and grabbed her Under Armour backpack, which contained her wallet and some clothing, Madison Police Department spokesperson Joel DeSpain said in a statement.

Although the robbery occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m. Sunday, the victim did not report the incident to the Madison Police Department until Monday morning, according to the report.

Since the suspect approached the victim from behind DeSpain said she could not provide the MPD with a detailed description of her attacker.
