Four freshman students voted to ASM

The Associated Students of Madison Student Government Committee announced the results of this year’s freshman elections election Wednesday night.

Callen Raveret, Michael Quesnell, AJ Hipke and Carissa Slosek will serve as the freshman representatives in ASM’s 19th session.

This year the election was slightly different than other years because only freshman seats were on the ballot, which restricted the voting to only first-year students.

Normally there are other seats on the ballot, opening up the election to the whole student body.

ASM Student Election Commission Chair Mickey Stevens said voter turnout in the election was 21.5 percent, a number slightly lower than normal, but relatively high considering the large size of this year’s freshman class.

“I’m very pleased with this year’s voter turnout, the number is on par with past history when there’s just freshman voters,” Stevens said.

According to Stevens, the distribution of votes is normally relatively low when there are only freshman seats, but this year’s election produced 15 candidates with more than 100 votes each.
