The Student Services Finance Committee unanimously approved contract status for the Wisconsin Public Interest Research Group at its meeting Thursday.
According to SSFC Chair Brandon Williams, a contract status means WISPIRG can legally pay employees who do not work for the university and are not students.
He said this allows WISPIRG to hire professional lobbyists and organizers who help achieve the organization's goals.
The SSFC approved the status with a vote of 9-0-0.
