A power outage on the west side of Madison effected some UW-Madison buildings for an hour Thursday morning.
According to Madison Gas and Electric spokesperson Steve Kraus, an equipment failure at the Walnut Street substation located near the power plant caused the outage.
The outage occurred at 10:00 a.m. and power returned by 11:10 a.m. Buildings and homes lost power in areas extending from Hilldale Road to Segoe Road.
The Waisman Center, the Walnut Street Heating Plant, the Health Services Learning Center and the Clinical Sciences Center parking ramp all lost power.
Cheri Walker, an employee of the business office in the Waisman Center, said her coworkers did not experience set backs during the approximately 30 minutes they experienced the outage.
There were people who were doing interviews and they continued through the outage '¦ there were people who had laptops and they continued to work,"" she said. ""It was very dark in our office and we were using flashlights, and cell phones, and ipods for batteries for light.""
Kraus said it is unknown how many customers lost power and it will take days to determine the exact figure.
""We do know it was confined to the substation and there were not any injuries or any property damage.""
