Your Paul Bunyan Burger and Union French Fries may taste just as delicious as they did last semester, but unbeknownst to many, since January the Wisconsin Union has been frying up foods the healthier way—trans fat-free.
The demand for a healthier option came from students, customers and managers who keep up with food trends, according to Carl Korz, WU food and beverage manager.
A prime vendor contract allows UW to get trans fat-free oil at essentially the same price as a higher fat one, so no extra cost is passed onto the customer, Korz said.
""It's a win-win situation for everybody,"" he said. ""The health benefits are there; the food still tastes great.""
Trans fat-free foods are available at Lakefront on Langdon, der Raskeller in Memorial Union and Einstein's and Red Oak Grill in Union South.
