White House shuffle sends McClellan packing, diminishes Rove's position

An anticipated White House switch-around Wednesday culminated in the replacement of Press Secretary Scott McClellan and a change in the scope of Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove's duties.

The shuffle comes on the heels of White House Chief of Staff Andrew Card's early April departure. His successor, Josh Bolten, invited aides earlier in the week to leave before major personnel changes were made.

Additionally, the White House has received mounting criticism in past weeks over the leadership of Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, coming mainly from retired generals.
