A 2005 UW-Madison graduate finished 16th in the Boston Marathon Monday, traversing the 26.2-mile course in two hours, 40 minutes and 23 seconds. The Iowa native was also the second American woman to cross the finish line.
The 24-year-old Michelle Lilienthal was competing in only her second marathon. She had previously placed third in the Philadelphia Marathon in November 2005.
For an in-depth article on the experience of the UW-Madison participants in the Boston Marathon, including an interview with Katherine Switzer, the first woman to officially complete the race, read The Daily Cardinal Wednesday.
