After losing three out of four games to start Big Ten play over the weekend to Northwestern and Illinois, the Wisconsin softball team (1-3 Big Ten, 12-13 overall) will head to Chicago to take on Loyola (7-22 overall) in a doubleheader today at 4 p.m.Junior outfielder Sam Polito was among the Badgers that put forth strong offensive performances in the four games, setting a UW-single game record with four runs against the Illini. Polito leads the team in runs (18), batting average (.346) and hits (28).
Freshman infielder Alexis Garcia had a monster weekend, batting .545 with two home runs, five RBIs, 12 total bases and a sluggng percentage of 1.091.
The Badgers will have to be wary of junior outfielder Nora Schober, whose seven doubles lead the Ramblers. Her .435 slugging percentage and 11 RBIs rank her second on the club.
Though the Ramblers have allowed their opponents to hit .346, while sporting a 5.46 ERA, freshman pitcher Laura DeLeon has a 2.69 ERA in 20 appearances on the mound.
Wisconsin will return to Big Ten play Sunday, when they host the Minnesota Golden Gophers for a doubleheader at Goodman Diamond.
