Seven innings of pain await Herald

The Wisconsin softball team may have trouble scoring runs from time to time, but The Daily Cardinal softball team has shown no problem in that department the past couple of years. Yes, it is that time again, the joyous spring day in which the classic matchup between The Daily Cardinal and The Badger Herald takes place.

The Cardinal used some power hitting and excellent pitching by former sports editor Clint Robus to take home a win last year. When the dust had settled, the final score read 11-2 in favor of the Dirty Bird.

Second-year head coach and sports editor Jon McNamara is confident about a repeat of last year's performance and said he does not fear any ringers from the opposing paper.

There's a good chance I will bring the all-girls lineup that I employed in the football game. It's good to give the offense a different look.\ he said. ""I just hope the Herald doesn't have too many problems flying in all their AP writers from across the globe to play Friday.""

When asked about the hype surrounding the game, McNamara refrained from falling prey to common mistakes.

""I'm not the kind of guy that is going to brag about my team in a column in my own paper,"" he said. ""The Cardinal's record speaks for itself.""
