A 16-year-old driver led Madison Police on a high-speed chase Thursday morning after speeding down the city's beltline highway.
According to police, the teenager was driving more than 80 m.p.h. and was racing eastbound on the highway with another car when officers began their pursuit. Both cars got off the highway at Verona Road, on the city's west side.
Police then stopped the drivers long enough to talk to them, but the 16-year-old quickly sped off into a nearby parking lot, where he crashed into a parked car.
The teenager then tried to flee the scene on foot, but was tackled and held down by bystanders until police arrived to arrest him.
He is likely to be charged with running away from police, hit and run, and driving with a suspended license.
