I think Associated Students of Madison showed their true colors in the election fiasco last week. I could understand if this was the first time there was a technical glitch, but this happened just a couple years ago. Just like before, ASM was quick to blame Department of Information Technology even though the ASM constitution clearly states they are responsible for the program being used.
The incompetence in testing out the system is not what bothers me, but the utter refusal to take responsibility for their mistakes. It is no wonder why most people were voting for multiple write-in candidates; even if they did have credible representation, the only time they receive that information is the one to two sentence candidate statement AFTER they have entered the online voting booth.
What is the answer to our unresponsive government? Well, I have a candidate in mind that does not want to run to build a resume. This candidate will not give out empty promises about reforming student government, in fact it can't make any promises at all. Vote FICUS for student council, SSFC and senior officer positions. This is a vote against a system where you have no clue about those who want to represent you.
Send ASM representatives the message that you will no longer stand the status quo. With a potted plant running student government at least you will not be surprised when you get a lot of hot air.
