Construction on East Washington Avenue led to traffic delays over the weekend on Madison's east side.
Traffic heading eastbound on the street was diverted to East Johnson Street, where long lines immediately formed as traffic lights failed to function consistently, and a high volume of cars was forced to merge into a limited number of lanes.
The Madison Police Department issued a press release Saturday urging drivers to remain calm as construction on East Washington Avenue continues.
