The Badger Baloney is obviously fake news—merely a satirical commentary on life in Madison. Except in the case of public figures, the people are not real.
UW–Madison officials concerned with members of the student body appearing in this month's issue of Playboy have taken the first steps towards a more in-depth inquiry. Chancellor John Wiley has volunteered to lead the task force in charge of the investigation.
The University has expressed reservations that members of the Delta Upsilon fraternity were photographed in the May issue of the popular men's magazine alongside nearly two dozen nude or nearly-nude female UW students. The picture was the first shot in an article featuring the top ten party schools in the nation with Madison coming in at number one.
What I am concerned about here is whether or not the university's image has been irreparably harmed and to what extent,\ said Wiley at a noon press conference Wednesday. ""It is not appropriate for boys to be next to girls' ta-tas and hoo hoos.""
Wiley's investigation will be to find out if DU violated any school rules by appearing not only in the magazine, but next to naked women. If so, the fraternity will be referred to the Student Organizations Office for disciplinary action. Already DU has been cited by its international body over the incident for ""meritorious achievement in getting chicks naked.""
The task force has instructions to review all pertinent information relating to the party school article in Playboy including, but not limited to, interviews with pictured females (clothing optional), research into back issues of the magazine, and stake outs of the DU fraternity to make sure no more occurrences of spotaneous nudity break out on their property.
""We will leave no stone, nudie mag page, or piece of unmentionables unturned,"" said task force member Carl Jensen, another volunteer.
UW-Madison senior Noah Annes, vice president of UW-Madison's Intrafraternity Council and DU member, said he welcomes the administration's investigation. He told reporters that, like many of the women featured in the picture with his fraternity, DU has nothing to hide.
""Our fraternity seeks brotherhood and community service above all else,"" Annes said. ""I can think of no better community outreach than naked girls.
Despite assurances from the Greeks that the pictorial broke no rules, Wiley was adamant about moving forward with the inquiry.
""I have not had a chance to completely review the controversial magazine article, but I have a bathroom break coming up soon and will take up the matter then,"" the chancellor said. ""This may take several trips to the facilities before I have made my final determination as to what action to take next.""
