You may remember how the poignant love story of a 26-year-old stripper and her 89-year-old oil tycoon soul mate ended after only 14 months due the lethal effects of being really, really old.
After the tragedy, the devastated widow, Vickie Lynn Marshall, a.k.a. Anna Nicole Smith, could not buy a happy ending.
After three separate rulings over the rightful heir of J. Howard Marshall II's $1.6 billion estate, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals threw out the $449 million originally awarded to Smith by a federal bankruptcy court.
On Feb. 28, the former Playmate's case arrived at the Supreme Court, but the court's ruling will not determine who gets what. Rather, the issue centers on the jurisdiction boundaries between state and federal courts.
And thus the issue lies before the Supreme Court, like a spread-eagle ex-Playmate patriotically demanding justice. We ain't sayin' she's a gold digger, but if the court favors the Ninth Circuit and Anna gets nothing, she can at least introduce herself to 86-year-old Justice John Paul Stevens. We hear he likes blondes.
