Just over one month ago, men's soccer head coach Jeff Rohrman announced seven new student athletes that would be on the roster for the 2006-'07 season. Make that eight.
Rohrman declared the addition of Mount Horeb High School's Scott Smith to the team. A defensive midfielder for the Vikings, Smith served as a three-time captain.
Scott is a great addition to our team,\ Rohrman announced in a UW Athletics press release Tuesday. ""He is an outstanding young man and a tremendous athlete. Over time I see him playing a significant role for us.""
During his career at Mount Horeb, Smith was just three points shy of 150, picking up 57 goals and 33 assists, 102 of which he notched in his senior year.
A two-time conference first team selection and two-time MVP, Smith led the team to the regional and sectional finals in his senior season. His performance led to his selection for the all-state second team.
""Clearly, he was one of the top players coming out of the Madison area,"" Rohrman said. ""We're excited to have him join our team.""
Smith joins forward/midfielder Matthew Arcangeli, forward Brian Bultman, forward/midfielder Pablo Delgado, forward Brandon Miller, midfielder Jon Rzepka, goalie Ryan Vint and defenseman/midfielder Taylor Waspi as recruits for next season.\
