Convicted state legislator hands in resignation, thanks lawmakers

After being convicted of three felonies and one misdemeanor March 13 for campaigning on state time, state Rep. Scott Jensen, R- Brookfield, officially resigned from the Assembly Tuesday. In a formal letter to Gov. Jim Doyle and Assembly Speaker John Gard, R-Peshtigo, Jensen expressed gratitude to his former colleagues for their character and commitment\ and maintained his commitment to the state of Wisconsin. ""Through my actions, I have forfeited the right to ever serve in elective office,"" said Jensen. ""But I have not given up the dream of public service that has animated my life since grade school."" Because the state Assembly is only in session for two weeks next month, no special election will be held to fulfill Jensen's vacancy.
