The Madison City Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to set April 29 as the date for the Mifflin Street Block Party hoping to avoid the same confusion that occurred over the date last year.
Much of the meeting consisted of Ald. Mike Verveer, District 4, convincing other members of City Council that he was sure of the date the students wanted for the party.
Verveer said the voice vote was unanimous.
We didn't want to make the same mistake from last year and this was what the students wanted,\ Verveer said. ""And it's also important that the date is April 29 because the cops are planning for that day. They've been planning it for months now.""
At this time last year, the Council voted for Mifflin both April 30 and May 7 because they did not know the day. The city was forced to change the party date, originally set for the first week of May, because it coincided with the first week of final exams.
