Proposed ’Student Bill of Rights’ could set UW policy

A bill proposed in the state Assembly would set specific standards for school policy and professor conduct to ensure the rights of students in the UW System, according to its author, Marlin Schneider, D-Wisconsin Rapids.

The bill outlines 14 points, which govern UW System policy from textbook weight to parking regulations during move-in and move-out times.

Under the bill, UW officials would have to take away tenure or six-months' salary from faculty members whose advising causes students to stay in school longer than they intended to.
