Approximately 58 UW-Madison students were arrested last weekend for violations related to Halloween parties.
That number is nearly identical to the number of UW-Madison students arrested last Halloween. UW-Madison students accounted for approximately 15 percent of all arrestees this year, approximately the same as last year. Police report that 447 people were arrested during this year's Halloween festivities.
Police trying to clear State Street found resistance from partiers throwing objects and refusing to disperse.
'They do stuff and run,' said Madison Police Department Public Information Officer Mike Hanson.
The weekend also saw a serious injury and a death. Nicholas Giancana, a non-UW-Madison student from Illinois, suffered a serious head injury after falling down a flight of stairs at an off-campus residence. Alcohol factored into the fall, Hanson said. Giancana, 19, is in the hospital in intensive care.
Adam Haese, 22, of Chicago, was pronounced dead Sunday morning. Police continue to investigate his death and say they refuse to divulge any further information about the case.
Hanson stressed current arrest statistics are 'preliminary' and that police continue to sift through the numbers to better understand the breakdown of Halloween arrests.
