Letter to the Editor: Insulting to say science and faith are compatible

Adam Dylewski's science column, 'Intelligent Design vs. evolution: a lopsided debate' was excellent. However, as an atheist and a science graduate I would say that the theory of evolution and many religious faiths are incompatible.

True there are religious faiths that have evolutionary views, such as Hinduism and others, but many other faiths, such as Christianity, are founded on square mythology that cannot be shoved into the round hole of evolution.

The claim that science and faith are compatible is really one of the most egregious claims that there is. It is more insulting to both science and faith to claim they are compatible than it is for fundamentalists to acknowledge that they are not compatible.

If your religion says that two plus two equals 23, then you can either continue to have faith that your religion is right, or you can acknowledge that your religion is wrong. To say that two plus two can equal both 23 and four is cop out and a denial of both views. Make a decision.
