The Wisconsin Democracy Campaign announced Monday that all three of the states' gubernatorial candidates have received campaign contributions from donors that have been linked to extortion, fraud or bribery.
Gov. Jim Doyle, U.S. Rep. Mark Green, R-Green Bay, and Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker have accrued nearly $23,000 in campaign funds since 2003.
Green has especially been of interest to the watchdog group due to his connections to former Republican House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, 'who was indicted on criminal conspiracy and money laundering charges,' according to the WDC. Many of Green's contributions were controlled by DeLay prior to his indictment.
One of the biggest contributors under suspicion is Stuart Levine, a Chicago attorney and former member of the Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board. Levine contributed around $7,000 to both Green and Walker before being charged with 28 different felonies regarding denial of construction permits and unorthodox hiring practices.
