Although Overture Center President Bob D'Angelo just retired from the performing arts venue last month, he faced sexual harassment complaints as far back as 1991, a Wisconsin State Journal open-records request revealed.
D'Angelo's sudden retirement followed the launch of an investigation concerning a sexual harassment complaint filed Aug. 30 against D'Angelo. The Aug. 30 complaint, filed by Overture receptionist Monica Everson, alleged D'Angelo had been sexually harassing her for as long as a decade during her time at the Overture. A complaint filed in 1991 alleges a separate incident of sexual harassment involving a 19-year-old UW-Madison student applying for an internship. Records indicate then-mayor Paul Soglin disciplined D'Angelo, warning him he could be fired if he harassed a woman again.
Records also show D'Angelo admitted to another incident involving another young woman, but that incident was not investigated.
