The Badger football team became No. 17 in the nation after its win against Michigan Saturday night. But the big winners after this weekend are Madison's bars.
Kim Murray, a bartender at Jordan's Big 10, 1330 Regent St, described a busy Saturday night. \We went through almost 300 cases of Miller Lite,"" said Murray.
Placing that number next to average sales, Murray said ""It's not even comparable.""
Joe Goldfine, a manager at State Street Brats, 603 State St. would not put a specific number on State Street Brats' Saturday night sales but said, ""We did well.""
During the game, tensions often ran high. And with hundreds of Michigan fans in town for the game, tempers occasionally flared. But according to both Goldfine and Murray, most Wisconsin and Michigan fans peacefully coexisted. An employee at Buffalo Wild Wings who declined to be named said the only significant problems occurred between Wisconsin fans.
The atmosphere surrounding the Michigan game was intense. Goldfine called it ""ecstatic."" Murray labeled it ""great.""
""It'll probably be the best Big 10 game that we have,"" she added. Goldfine echoed that sentiment. Ohio State is the only Badger opponent that draws as much enthusiasm as Michigan, he said.
Most bars on State and Regent streets had lines forming from the early afternoon until well after midnight. Though many people had been drinking for much of the day, lines remained peaceful in most cases.
Once people finally got into the bars, they joined many others in celebration. State Street Brats was a popular destination. According to Goldfine, ""it was just packed.\
