The Madison Police Department launched a death investigation Tuesday after finding the body of a 20-year-old woman at 211 Langdon St. The young woman, Sarah M. Stellner, was not a UW-Madison student but resided at the address.
Police discovered Stellner pulseless and not breathing at 9 a.m. Tuesday. Sgt. Joey Skenandore said police were uncertain how long she had been in that state.
In accordance with typical death investigation procedure, three officers and two detectives are currently following through on the case. The address will remain quarantined as a crime scene, with its other residents temporarily staying at other locations, until the police finish their investigation there.
Dane County Coroner John Stanley confirmed that after an autopsy conducted Tuesday afternoon, trauma was eliminated as a possible cause of death. Toxicology reports sent out today may help to ascertain a cause of death later this week.
At a meeting of stem cell researchers Tuesday, UW-Madison Professor of Anatomy and Neurology Clive Svendsen announced UW-Madison will soon add two new stem cell programs to its repertoire, according to a UW-Madison press release.
Svendsen said the university will establish a regenerative medicine program as well as an interdisciplinary postdoctoral training program that will further stem cell research efforts across the university.
The regenerative medicine program will focus on translating the science of stem cells to application through the development of cell replacement therapies, the release said.
The post-doctoral position will enable three fellows each year for the next five years to receive intensive training in stem-cell biology before they begin research careers.
