UW-Madison chapters of Alpha Chi Sigma and Sigma Phi fraternities have teamed up with Sony Computer Entertainment America and fraternities from seven universities nationwide in search of the \Ultimate Campus Baller.""
This cross-nation competition faces fraternities against one another in the Playstation 2 RivalZone featuring Sony's new video game, NCAA Final Four 2004. The games began Feb. 3 with a two-week intra-fraternity challenge as brothers compete against each other on NCAA Final Four 2004.
""We're pretty excited about it. We've had the system set up for about a week and a half now. We've got some pretty strong gamers who are really looking forward to this,"" said UW-Madison student Devin Reilly, Sigma Phi fraternity member and intern for Mr. Youth, a promotional marketing group with the project.
""We also just finished rush and it's pretty cool to show the pledges that we're involved in these organizations at a national level,"" he said.
This gaming tournament, sponsored by Sony Computer Entertainment America and Mr. Youth LLC, is promoting Playstation 2's network adapter for online gaming and the new NCAA Final Four 2004 game.
""To create a video gaming competition much like the real NCAA tournament we have selected eight of the top contenders in this year's NCAA power rankings to participate,"" said Blair Elliott, Senior Promotions Manager for SCEA.
""The NCAA Final Four 2004 software captures the spirit and realism of college basketball and is the most exciting college basketball game available on Playstation 2,"" he said in a press release.
Following the culmination of this week's intra-fraternity challenge, the top players from UW's Sigma Phi and Alpha Chi Sigma will be paired up to compete for admittance into the Sweet 16. The Sweet 16, followed by the Final Four, will include fraternities from across the nation competing for a spring break get-away in March where the top two ballers will compete for the championship title, said Ben Sterner, spokesperson for Mr. Youth.
Winners will receive an all-expenses paid spring break trip to Panama City to compete in the final stage of the gaming championship in Panama Beach.
