UW-Milwaukee boycotts Tyson products

Cafeterias at UW-Milwaukee will no longer serve Tyson chicken products after student pressure spurred the university to switch food service providers, according to UW-Milwaukee junior Nathan Hall.

Hall, a member of Students for Corporate Responsibility, said that group and Students for Social Change worked to convince Director of Dining Services Scott Hoffland to switch providers from one that distributed Tyson products to another that will distribute other chicken. The switch should be in place by Thanksgiving.

The students acted in solidarity with striking workers at the Tyson pepperoni plant in Jefferson, Wis., Hall said. Workers there went on strike Feb. 28 over a contract offer from Tyson that included a freeze in wages and pension benefits.
