Pakistani troops attacked suspected al Qaeda operatives near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border Thursday, killing 12 people and capturing a dozen suspected terrorists, according to CNN.
Heavy fighting continued as the army surrounded three compounds in the region.
More than 12 helicopter gunships backed the troops, a witness told CNN. The Pakistani army did not identify those captured and killed but said they were foreign nationals.
The incident happened in the mountainous region of Vana, where western intelligence officials suspect Osama bin Laden is hiding. The Pakistani government claims bin Laden is not in their country.
Associated Students of Madison Student Council approved committee appointments unanimously Thursday night.
This was the first year the Shared Governance Committee did not recommend students to fill Student Services Financial Committee, the powerful segregated-fee allocating group, according to Shared Governance Committee Chair Hope Wallace. The seats are now directly elected by groups they represent.
Among the most popular appointments this year included Athletic and Academic Misconduct Committees.
ASM seats still remain available on a rolling basis, Wallace said.
