The UW-Madison building Agriculture Hall is celebrating its 100th birthday this year with an ice-cream-creation contest.
Highlighted in the National Register of Historical Places in 1978, Ag Hall has been noted for its attractive structure and accessibility for numerous activities. Ag Hall not only houses the largest lecture auditorium on campus, but has supported many scientific accomplishments over the past 100 years.
UW-Madison's College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, in cooperation with Babcock Ice Cream, will be holding a contest to name the commemorative flavor to celebrate the centennial. Students and staff are invited to submit their ideas for a new flavor and name to be featured later this year.
According to Frank Kooistra, associate dean of administration for CALS, a reception will be held Dec. 4 to celebrate the centennial. This short program will feature Arnold Alanen, UW-Madison professor of landscape architecture, speaking on the history of Ag Hall.
Though the reception is by invitation only, the winner or winners of the ice cream contest will be invited and presented one gallon of the featured ice cream during the event.
\[The ice cream] will kind of be a featured flavor once a year, each year, for a short period during special occasions,"" Kooistra said.
Submissions for a name and flavor must be submitted by Oct. 27 to along with the submitter's name, address, phone number and e-mail.
