Spanish gorilla has skin cancer

A rare albino gorilla at the Barcelona Zoo in Spain is dying of skin cancer and only has a few months to live, according to the Associated Press.

The gorilla, Snowflake, is the only known living albino in the world, the zoo's chief veterinarian Jesus Fernandez said. Fernandez said Snowflake is allergic to the sun and his disease has accelerated since he was first diagnosed in 2001.

\Though we've tried our best to protect him. This is an incurable, progressive disease, and it will follow its natural course,"" Fernandez said.

Snowflake was brought to the zoo in 1966 after he was captured in Equatorial Guinea. Visitors have flocked to his cage to say goodbye since veterinarians announced his imminent death last weekend.

Snowflake turned his back on visitors this week, according to the AP. This has not stopped people from hanging postcards with his images on it throughout the city.
