A group of Wisconsin lawmakers sent a letter to President Bush Monday showing their opposition to a pre-emptive United States military attack on Iraq.
The letter stated that a pre-emptive United States strike would violate international law, isolate the United States from the rest of the world and endanger thousands of Iraqi civilians and U.S. military personnel. The letter also said such action would hurt the economy.
\The United States does not have the support of many of our important allies to launch a military attack,"" the legislators wrote.
Eight state representatives and two state senators signed the letter, including state Rep. Mark Pocan, D-Madison, state Rep. Spencer Black, D-Madison, state Rep. Terese Berceau, D-Madison and state Sen. Fred Risser, D-Madison.
Beginning Monday, a new UW-Madison license plate is available, which features the crest ""W.""
""The new design can be seen more easily from a distance and ties in very nicely with the university's new institutional logo introduced last year,"" Cindy Van Matre, UW-Madison's director of trademark licensing said.
The plate requires a $20 additional fee, which goes toward scholarships. A $15 additional issuance fee is also required for the plate.
During the past five years, the license plate fees have generated $110,000 annually in scholarships for students.
