Despite a 1-0 loss to Ohio State in the Big Ten championship game Sunday, the Wisconsin women's soccer team (12-8-3) received an at-large bid in the 2002 NCAA national tournament.
The Badgers will open tournament play at Valley Fields in Milwaukee against in-state rival Marquette, Friday at 7:30 p.m. The Golden Eagles (13-7-3) defeated UW 1-0 in mid-September, the only meeting this season between the two teams.
Marquette moved as high as No. 14 in the national rankings this season, but has since dropped out. This game will mark the first time that the Badgers have faced an in-state rival in the tournament.
