Cola drinks satiate hunger and quench thirst just as well as orange juice or 1 percent milk, according to a study by the University of Washington.
Previously, some nutritionists believed that colas only quenched thirst and did not affect appetite.
Twenty minutes after 32 test subjects consumed 20 oz. of milk, orange juice, cola or sparkling water, they were provided with food choices. Based on the subjects' choices and amount of food consumed, the researchers concluded that, versus 1 percent milk or orange juice, colas did not lead to increased food consumption, as was previously thought. In fact, colas satisfied hunger better than sparkling water. The four beverages were exactly the same in their ability to quench thirst.
