The UW-Madison Athletics Department will make more than $400,000 from the NCAA men's basketball Midwest regional as a result of record-setting concession sales at the Kohl Center.
Prior to the tournament, officials had projected $50,000 in total concession revenue. But the result proved significantly higher with an estimated $158,000 in food and beverage sales'$96,000 Friday and $62,000 Sunday'according to Jamie Pollard, UW-Madison athletic director of finance.
Pollard, who also served as the tournament manager, said the university will receive 20 percent of the difference between the $1.8 million in total ticket sales and the $300,000 NCAA-approved expenditures. That totals approximately $300,000 for UW-Madison.
A concert featuring AC/DC was the top moneymaking event prior to the NCAA tournament games at the Kohl Center, selling $57,000 worth of food, beverages and other assorted concessions.
