Wisconsin can't top the Tigers in Colorado

Although the men's hockey team tied Colorado College 5-5 Friday and lost 6-0 Saturday, the Badgers remained No. 5 in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.

Wisconsin, (10-9-3 WCHA, 12-14-4 overall) shot out to a 3-0 lead early in Friday's contest, with sophomore winger Rene Bourque, senior forward David Hukalo and senior forward Matt Hussey scoring in the first period. Senior center Kent Davyduke gained his eighth goal of the season in the third period, giving the Badgers a 4-2 lead.

However, CC's three power-play goals, coupled with an even-strength goal in the third period, brought the game to 4-4 at the buzzer, forcing the teams into overtime.

Junior defenseman Mark Jackson showed his stuff and earned his first goal of the season on a power play at 9:43 in overtime play. However, the Tigers answered UW minutes later with a goal from senior center Mark Cullen, who shot his second power-play goal of the night and brought the score to an even 5-5 to produce the Badgers' third tie of the season.

Freshman goaltender Bernd Bruckler had a career-high 50 saves as the Tigers outshot the Badgers 55-23.

Despite UW's success Friday against the No. 4 team in the WCHA, they did not have the same magic Saturday and could not score against CC. The Tigers once again outshot the Badgers, this time 38-19; six of them were goals for CC. Wisconsin, experiencing its third shutout this season, struggled offensively throughout the night.
