Judge allows Excite@Home to stop service

A U.S. Bankruptcy Judge gave Excite@Home permission Friday to stop providing high-speed Internet service to more than 4 million customers nationwide.

Charter Communications in Madison is one of several cable companies currently providing cable modem Internet access through @Home.

As of 11 p.m. Sunday, Charter was still providing @Home service, but the Associated Press reported 850,000 AT&T customers had their @Home service cut off Saturday.
