Constituents of the 77th Assembly District, which includes the majority of the UW-Madison campus, voiced overwhelming support for student financial aid and stem-cell research in a survey conducted by state Rep. Spencer Black, D-Madison.
The 2001 Legislative Survey of 1,600 residents, showed that 73 percent of the respondents support increasing financial aid in relationship to UW-Madison tuition hikes, and 79 percent oppose restrictions on stem-cell research conducted by UW-Madison scientists.
\Tuition has gone up double the inflation rate over the past decade, while the state's commitment to financial aid has lagged behind,"" Black said in a statement.
To a lesser extent, members of the district also said they would prefer holding elections on the weekends, with 45 percent in support of the option.
