The Wisconsin Badgers traveled to AMSOIL Arena to play the Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs on Friday and Saturday. The team battled in both games, going 1-1 in the series. On Friday, the Badgers lost their nine-game winning streak, before fighting back to win on Saturday.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers just recently claimed the No. 1 spot in the nation over Texas, heading into the match with an 18-1 overall record and 10-0 in the Big Ten. Nebraska is the toughest and highest ranked competition the Wisconsin Badgers have faced this season, but not only did Wisconsin get the win — they managed to do it in three sets, 25-23, 25-23, 25-18. These two teams are now tied for first in the Big Ten at 10-1 alongside Ohio State.

On Friday, Wisconsin’s strong offense and impenetrable defense guided them to a win over Michigan State. Key defensive player Gulce Guctekin led Wisconsin with 11 digs and also contributed on offense with a service ace.

The Badgers traveled to Bemidji State to play the Beavers on Thursday and Friday. They swept the series with no trouble, totaling their ninth straight win of the season. Kami Cronish allowed no goals Thursday night and only one was allowed Friday night by Jane Gervais.

No. 8 Wisconsin (13-3) will face the Michigan State Spartans (10-9) on Friday and followed by an away game in Ann Arbor against the Michigan Wolverines (13-5) on Sunday.

The Wisconsin Men’s Hockey team started their season 0-4 after losing their opening two series, one against Big Ten opponent Ohio State and the other against former Western Collegiate Hockey Association rival St. Cloud State. Despite losing their opening four games this year, the team displayed some potential, especially against No. 8 St. Cloud.

There are three truths in life: death, taxes and Wisconsin football’s mediocre quarterback play. Since the superhuman efficiency of Russell Wilson in 2012, Wisconsin has featured the pedestrian likes of Alex Hornibrook, Bart Houston, Jack Coan, Joel Stave, etc. Mertz’s arrival in 2019 was supposed to break this trend of mediocrity in the passing game and bring in a new age of highflying offense along with Wisconsin’s traditional stifling defense and smash-mouth, explosive running attack.

The greatest college football programs typically have an identity – some feature or characteristic that sets them apart from other teams and explains their continued success. For the Wisconsin Badgers, they have made their name on two things consistently: running the ball and playing suffocating defense.
