Are you a Wisconsin fan who forgot what it’s like to have a quarterback who can step up and make a throw when the team needs it on third down? Fear not, your savior is here and his name is Alex Hornibrook.

The No. 11 Wisconsin Badgers (1-0 Big Ten, 4-0 overall) continued to roll on Saturday, upsetting the No. 8 Michigan State Spartans (0-1, 2-1) in East Lansing, Mich., 30-6.

Any doubts about the No. 11 Wisconsin Badgers (1-0 Big Ten, 4-0 overall) after last week’s close win over the Georgia State Panthers are now gone as they upset the No. 8 Michigan State Spartans (0-1, 2-1) in a 30-6 win in East Lansing to remain undefeated.

Sports editor Thomas Valtin-Erwin, football writers Lorin Cox and Andrew Tucker, and football columnist Zach Rastall preview Wisconsin's Big Ten opener against Michigan State. They also talk about the effect of Wisconsin's recent string of injuries and the decision to start Alex Hornibrook. The four make amends for saying Louisville was not a legitimate contender and make their picks for Week 4.

It was another topsy-turvy week for Big Ten football, with both highs and lows for some of the conference’s top teams. Ohio State, Michigan State and Nebraska all picked up impressive non-conference wins, while Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin made asses of themselves on national television. As a result, we have a little shifting around in this week’s power rankings.

Statements were made on Saturday, and there was plenty of movement in the college football world on Sunday. After another weekend of action, which featured everything from kickoff returns to #SurrenderCobras, there is still little movement between the top teams in college football. Obviously it is just one weekend in a long season, but if teams such as Louisville can indicate they belong in the College Football Playoff Picture, then the Alabama Crimson Tide should be fearful that their spot at the top of college football is threatened by a deeper elite tier.

Midway through the first quarter against Akron, redshirt senior tight end Eric Steffes lined up on a third and sixth as one of the two players at the end of the Wisconsin line of scrimmage. When the ball was snapped, Steffes ran a successful whip route, pretending to go across the middle of the field, before halting, spinning and sprinting toward the sideline. Redshirt senior quarterback Bart Houston pumped once and stepped up in the pocket before finding the open Steffes for a first down.

The Badgers will open Big Ten play this week against a foe that follows them from the basketball court to the gridiron, Mark Dantonio’s No. 12- ranked Michigan State Spartans. The two teams haven’t played on a football field since Michigan State’s 16-13 overtime victory in 2012, but the Badgers look to add a win in the all-time series that stands 30-22, in favor of the Spartans.

The Spartans defense looks to stifle the Badgers’ running game.

Tailgates are a staple of game day, but not anymore on Breese Terrace.

In senior tailback Corey Clement’s absence, the Badgers offense struggled against a stingy Georgia State defense, needing someone to provide the Badgers with some firepower in order to avoid disaster.

In 2012, long snapper Connor Udelhoven walked into the Badgers locker room as an anonymous walk-on looking to impact the Wisconsin football team. Five years later as a redshirt senior, he is still just as anonymous, but his impact no longer goes unnoticed.

Connor Udelhoven has touched the ball just once in his career, a fumble recovery pictured above.

Few teams have been able to make this Wisconsin Badgers’ defense (3-0) look vulnerable in the last few seasons, but the Georgia State Panthers found a way to do it last week, at least for a few quarters. Their quick passing attack, combined with double moves and deep shots on the outside, stretched the defense horizontally and vertically.

Alex Hornibrook might be the starting quarterback this week, but that doesn't make him Aaron Rodgers.

I’m just going to come out and say it: Football fans in Wisconsin have been spoiled by great quarterbacks. Going from arguably a top-five all-time QB, Brett Favre, to arguably a top-two in the game right now, Aaron Rodgers, is absurd, and many Packers fans seem to think that’s just the way football is.
