Third case of Coronavirus in Wisconsin confirmed in Dane County

The Wisconsin Department of Health and Dane County announced Tuesday a third person in Wisconsin — Dane County specifically — has tested positive for COVID-19.

The person was exposed while traveling in the U.S. and is now isolated at home. County health officials are working to determine people who have had contact with the patient to test, and possibly isolate, those who may be exhibiting symptoms.

This is the second confirmed case of COVID-19 in Dane County. That first person has since recovered and has been released from the hospital.

Janel Heinrich, Director of Public Health Madison and Dane County, said since it’s the second confirmed case in the county they are more prepared to deal with and control the spread.

“As this is the second confirmed case of COVID-19 in Dane County, we have the experience in caring for patients in isolation and contacting those who may have been in contact with the patient,” Heinrich said. “We will continue working with DHS and CDC, as well as our local health care providers and other partners, to limit the spread of COVID-19 in the community.”
